2016 Christmas Appeal-Airport _News

By

Newcastle Airport's bean counters have been busy collating the results from our Christmas Giving Appeal and it is with gratitude that we say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took part in the 2016 appeal.

Due to our passengers’ generosity and the tireless fundraising efforts of our retailers a total of $5,425 was raised during the four-week Christmas Appeal. The  willingness of our retail partners - including both the spotless and AWPL staff members - to help us raise funds for our charity of choice was so humbling. It was the enthusiasm and support of our business partners that lead to this amazing result.

With coins donated on our terminal collection buckets and through the selling of Christmas baubles that were used to make some very elaborate displays in the departures lounge, these funds will directly benefit families in the Hunter who are going through the rigors of treatment for breast cancer.

The enthusiasm with which our retailers got behind the appeal and the creative ways they designed the baubles really made a festive atmosphere in the departures terminal and highlighted the message behind our appeal.

Since 2010, NAPL has raised more than $225,000 for our charity of choice HBCF with monies raised contributing to, among many other things, comfort cushions, the purchase of a vehicle used for patient transport, and a wig library. All monies donated remains in the Hunter and goes to Locals in need.

The Foundation is unique as they offer support at every stage of the breast cancer treatment journey, either during new diagnosis, during treatment, or post-treatment. The dedicated service helps with practical day-to-day supportive care and physiological support fir those with breast cancer and their families that live in the Hunter region. As a not-for-profit and volunteer-run organisation, every dollar donated to the Foundation is invested into delivering grass-roots supportive care for men, women and families in the Hunter region and Central Coast.

Well done everyone.

Selling the Hunter to the world-Airport_news

Yesterday, more than 30 tourism professionals, representing 19 businesses, attended two workshops hosted by Newcastle Airport.

We had representation from 19 local tourism businesses, proving there is a real desire, not to mention the need, for tourism operators in the Hunter to become 'export ready' for rapidly growing Asian markets.

The workshops were facilitated by Newcastle Airport because we wanted to help our local businesses be ready for when the Asian market lands in our region, and we are committed to being the airport the region deserves and helping to grow the visitor economy in our region.

With inbound international arrivals to Australia set to grow from 8.4 million to 12.3 million in 2025, coupled, with Destination NSW's strategic focus to send visitors our way with more frequency, what yesterday's workshops showed was there are now more tourism operators on the right path to support the influx of international tourism set to fall upon the Hunter.

During the workshop, attendees engaged with export marketing tourism professionals from Australian Attractions and learned about the inbound market to Australia and NSW, the traditional marketplace and commission structures, online and dynamic pricing, how to work with inbound tour operators, and what their business needs to do to become ‘export ready’.

The Asia Export Ready Workshop is part of Newcastle Airport’s commitment to develop the region as a highly-desired destination, not only by Novocastrians and Sydney-siders, but also by international and interstate visitors.
