No.1 upgrade at Newcastle Airport

Newcastle Airport is investing $900,000 to upgrade the toilets behind the retail concourse to provide greener, fresher and more modern facilities.

The upgrade will more than double the size of the existing toilets to accommodate the Airport’s increasing passenger numbers and to provide a more pleasant experience for users of Newcastle Airport.

The upgrade includes a building extension, replacement of toilets, partitions, basins, soap dispensers and dryers to incorporate a more sophisticated and hygienic fit-out. And as part of the Airport’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the upgrade also includes low flush toilets, insulation, and low energy lighting.

“Our customers have told us that we provide great customer service but that our toilets were tired and left a lot to be desired.

“We listened to that feedback and have invested a lot of money to ensure that at the end of the project our toilets will be in line with our high customer service standard.

We thank airport users for their cooperation while we undertake this upgrade and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” Newcastle Airport CEO, Paul Hughes said.

The existing toilets have been completely closed to the public to enable faster completion of the works. Temporary toilets, accessible from the arrivals hall, were opened on Saturday.

Newcastle Airport has implemented quirky, tongue-in-cheek signage throughout the terminal to clearly advise passengers of the works and provide directions to the temporary facilities.

The Airport has partnered with builder BOLKM to complete the project. It is expected that the project will be completed in time for the busy Christmas period.
