Christmas display at the Airport

Festive banners decorated by local school students are on display in the Newcastle Airport terminal during the Christmas period.

Newcastle Airport invited schools that participated in its Schools Program throughout the year to help decorate the terminal for Christmas.

The Newcastle Airport Schools Program supports the Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) Syllabus for Stage 1 students, offering students the opportunity to experience behind-the-scenes operations of a busy airport and transport hub up-close.

The unique opportunity to showcase their creativity allows students to let their imaginations run wild. The festive banners include images that feature the Airport and Christmas and the students draw inspiration from their excursions.

Travellers, Gail Beckett and Lois Hamilton, from Melbourne, were fortunate enough to meet one of the Christmas banner artists, Tara from St Phillips Christian College, as they admired her school’s contribution.

Ms Beckett selected the banner created by St Philips Christian College students as her favourite.

"It’s just gorgeous. It includes the whole class as well as the Airport and the Christmas message," she said.

CEO Paul Hughes expressed his gratitude toward the schools for their participation, "Thank you to our young community for supporting Newcastle Airport and helping to provide a warm welcome to Airport users during the festive season."

The banners will be returned to the schools at the beginning of term one 2012 – along with a gift in appreciation of each school’s efforts.
