October passenger numbers soar in 2015

Monday, 16 November 2015

The number of passengers travelling through Newcastle Airport has hit a record high for 2015 with 106,121 passengers passing through the Airport in October.

This continues a trend of October being the busiest month each year at Newcastle Airport.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr Peter Cock said October is consistently a busy month for the Airport.

“Strong demand for travel during October can be attributed to a mix of leisure and business travel.

“The end of the school holidays and the October long weekend are complemented with large events and conferences around the country, such as the AFL Grand Final, the Spring Racing Carnival, and Gold Coast V8 events.

“Locally, our region hosted a number of conferences including the Regional Airports Association Australia Conference, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Conference, Australian Men’s Shed Conference, Interflora Conference, and the Newwork 21 Conference. Each of these increased the number of inbound visitors to our region,” said Peter.

“Our team works alongside local tourism organisations and the Altogether Perfect team to entice high-quality conferences and delegates to our region. October showed a culmination of months of work behind the scenes to bring it altogether.

“This year has certainly been exciting for Newcastle Airport. The opening of our new terminal in August and the high passenger numbers in October reinforce the Airport’s crucial role in connecting Newcastle with the rest of Australia,” concluded Peter.
