Flying high at Tourism Awards

Newcastle Airport was presented the Gold Award in the Specialised Tourism Services category at the prestigious 2011 NSW Tourism Awards, held in Sydney last week.
The Airport was recognised for enhancing the visitor experience and working closely with local tourism.

As the gateway to some very diverse tourism experiences – including Port Stephens, Newcastle, Hunter Valley Wine Country and the Central Coast – Newcastle Airport was acknowledged as a vibrant tourism partner that develops inbound marketing partnerships with local businesses and airlines to encourage tourism growth.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Paul Hughes, said “Winning this industry-judged award is an honour. Our industry has recognised us for the contribution we make to tourism within NSW.

“We are proud to contribute to our thriving local economy and are delighted to be an alternate gateway to NSW.”
This Award came just two days after Newcastle Airport was presented the Major Airport of the Year Award by the Australian Airports Association for its community engagement program, in particular the Schools Program.

”This has been an amazing week for the Airport. I was greatly humbled to accept two industry awards for the Airport within the one week. It’s also great recognition of the amazing work the airport team does for our community and tourism industry,” concluded Paul.

Newcastle Airport will represent NSW at the Tourism Australia Awards to be held in Cairns in March 2012
