October is busiest month ever

In October Newcastle Airport broke its two year monthly passenger movement record by facilitating 111,757 passengers. This is almost a 9% growth, or 9,118 more passengers, than October 2009 and 4% more than the previous record of October 2008.

Historically the Airport’s strongest month of the year, October was buoyed by school holiday, cruise ship, and business traffic as well as an increase in capacity on the Gold Coast service.

Newcastle Airport Manager Corporate Affairs, David Nye said that “this is the fifth month in a row we have had increased passenger growth when compared with 2009.

“These figures clearly indicate a return in confidence of domestic air travel to-and-from our region, particularly after demand slowed in 2009.

“If this trend continues in November and December, I am confident that we will have another record year and reach our forecast of 1.17 million passengers for 2010,” concluded David.
