Passenger growth in first quarter

Newcastle Airport today reported positive passenger results, with a growth of 6.2% for the first quarter of the 2010/11 financial year when compared with the same period last year.

The month of September was also the busiest September on record for Newcastle Airport, with 101,919 passenger movements, an increase of 9.8% or 9,114 passengers when compared with September of 2009.

Newcastle Airport’s Manager Corporate Affairs, David Nye, said that, “it has been a busy quarter for Newcastle Airport largely attributed to events such as the RAAF Air Show, P&O Cruises commencing operations from Newcastle, Norfolk Air re-commencing services, and the July and September / October school holidays.

“In addition to this, Jetstar has made an announcement that is will increase its services to and from Melbourne later this year by 3,500 seats each week.”
