Terminal extension milestone

100 concrete trucks lay foundations
Tuesday, 30 September 2014

Construction of Newcastle Airport’s multimillion dollar terminal expansion will hit a major milestone tomorrow when 100 concrete trucks will unload more than 700 cubic metres of concrete.

The concrete is part of the first floor slab of the Airport’s $11.1 million terminal redevelopment. Funded by the NSW Government's Hunter Infrastructure Investment Fund this project will increase the terminal footprint by about 50%. It will provide permanent facilities for customs, immigration and quarantine for international flights as well as improving passenger experience with additional retail options.

The construction to date has taken 12 weeks.  Hansen Yunken’s construction methodology in completing the first floor slab as an early stage will mitigate future weather delays in completing the remainder of the structure.

Passengers and visitors to the Airport will not be inconvenienced by increased truck movements tomorrow because site construction access has been designed to be away from the Airport's main road and passenger areas.

Media Note:    Trucks will commence unloading concrete from 5.30am and will finish late in the afternoon.
Media access will be available at 10.30am on Wednesday, 1 October.
Media image opportunities are available but you must sign in at Newcastle Airport reception between 10.10 and 10.25am to obtain airside access.  Please note that photo ID is required.
