Virgin Australia adds 1,000 seats

From 12 November, Virgin Australia will increase flights between Newcastle and Brisbane from two to three per day Monday to Friday.

The service will add an additional 1,000 seats to the route each week and boost Newcastle Airport’s total number of weekday Brisbane services to 10.
“During the past 12 months, we’ve undertaken significant market research to understand the needs of our market.

What we’ve discovered is Newcastle Airport is unique; half our passengers are travelling for business, which is 20% more than the average Australian airport.

“Prior to this announcement, Virgin Australia’s first departure to Brisbane was at 10.35am—too late for the corporate market. They’ve heeded our research and listened to the needs of our market. And, despite low aircraft availability, Virgin Australia has shown commitment to our region and our corporate travellers by introducing this extra Newcastle – Brisbane service,” said Newcastle Airport’s CEO Paul Hughes.

The flight times of the new service will be:

  • Brisbane to Newcastle – depart 6.00am; arrive 8.20am (Monday to Friday)
  • Newcastle to Brisbane – depart 8.50am; arrive 9.00am (local) (Monday to Friday)

In addition to the new service, Virgin Australia has also adjusted schedules to provide better onward connections domestically and internationally.
“There’s now no need to do the gruelling southbound F3 drive. It’s feasible to start your trip at Newcastle Airport just before 9.00am, hub through Brisbane and arrive at Cairns by midday, Rockhampton by 12.15pm, or even be on your way to Los Angeles,” concluded Paul.

Virgin Australia is celebrating the announcement of the extra service with Newcastle – Brisbane sale fares starting from $85 one-way.
