Newcastle Airport is committed to working with and contributing to the local community through our Community Engagement Program. As a significant economic contributor to the region as a whole, Newcastle Airport also takes pride in 'giving something back' to the community that it operates within.
We believe it is vital that the local community shares in the success story of Newcastle Airport. Therefore the Airport actively engages with its surrounding communities whilst endeavouring to listen to and address their concerns. As part of our community engagement program, Newcastle Airport is working in partnership with its neighbours to help foster a sense of community and pride in the Airport's operations.
Newcastle Airport aims to be an outstanding corporate citizen and we are proud to support a number of initiatives that promote positive relationships with our local community. Newcastle Airport has adopted four areas that underpin our actions within the community:

Newcastle Airport Schools Program
The Newcastle Airport Schools Program, introduced in 2006, continues to educate stage one (year 1 and 2) students by offering behind-the-scenes tours of the Airport to in support of the transport unit of the Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) syllabus.

Christmas banners
Each year Newcastle Airport invites local schools to decorate festive banners to hang in the terminal during the busy Christmas season. The decorative banners provide a unique opportunity for students to show-case their school, as well as give a bright and colourful welcome to Airport users.

Aviation Careers Day
The Aviation Careers Day introduced in 2006 is an initiative driven by Newcastle Airport. It is supported by the aviation precinct with the purpose of promoting aviation and aerospace as primary career pathways. This is a free-of-charge annual event thaoffers high school students a real taste of the aviation industry. Respected industry representatives conduct behind-the-scenes tours and information sessions; whilst students get the opportunity to speak directly to workers, as well as get up close to aircraft.

Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation
In 2009 Newcastle Airport chose the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation as its Charity of Choice.
The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation provides grassroot support for local people undergoing treatment for breast cancer. It does this by providing transportation for patients, home and yard maintenance during treatment, Comfort Cushions for post-operative patients and scholarships for the children of families affected by breast cancer. The Foundation is also working towards establishing Virginia's Place - where patients, carers and volunteers of the Foundation can access information, assistance or simply rest between treatments.
Newcastle Airport will once again host its annual Charity Golf Day in March 2012. All proceeds raised from the day will assist the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation in providing Comfort Cushions to more than 650 post-operative patients throughout our region each year.

Surfest
Surfest is Australia's largest festival of professional surfing, held at Merewether Beach, Newcastle and attracts the best professional surfers from around Australia and the world. To be held from 7 to 18 March in 2012, Surfest is unique on the Australia surfing calendar and one of only three such surf lifestyle festivals in the world.
Up to 50,000 spectators enjoy the wide variety of surfing events and related activities across the two weeks which culminate in the finals of a four-star World Qualifying Series men’s tournament – the Mark Richards Pro and a women’s World Qualifying Series event, the BurtonToyota Open – both part of the World Professional Surfing tour.

Newcastle Airport is proud to be a sponsor of Newcastle Surf Lifesaving Club, a club positioned in the heart of Newcastle.
The Club offers a variety of life saving courses for all ages, allowing many the potential to protect Newcastle beaches by becoming part of the patrolling teams.

Mallabula Junior Rugby League
Newcastle Airport is proud to support the interests of local sporting club, Mallabula Junior Rugby League.
Each week, an eager bunch of kids take to the field and kick-off, wearing the Newcastle Airport logo with pride on their guernseys. Civic Theatre Inspirations 2011 – Children’s season
Newcastle is a vibrant and eclectic city known for its beaches, sport, and laid-back lifestyle. Home to the Hunter's premier performing arts and function venues, the Civic Precinct hosts a wide range of concerts, musicals, plays, dance and other events.
The Civic Precinct Newcastle Subscription Season is a diverse and entertaining program of dance, drama, comedy, cabaret, film and children’s shows staged in the majestic Civic Theatre and the intimate surrounds of the Playhouse.
Newcastle Airport is the proud sponsor of the 2011 Children’s Season, which brings the very best touring and local producers together for children and their families. In 2010, Newcastle Airport supported the Hunter Valley Wine Show. This highly respected show is held in August each year and attracts entries from over 100 exhibitors, concentrating on exhibiting wines made from grapes grown in the Hunter Valley.

Strategic partner of Hunter Regional Tourism Organisation
Newcastle Airport is the Platinum partner of the Hunter Regional Tourism Organisation (HRTO). Representing Tourism New South Wales in the Hunter region, the Newcastle Airport relationship with HRTO is key to driving inbound tourism and economic benefit to the region.
The Newcastle Airport CEO is an active HRTO board member. The value of the Newcastle Airport / HRTO partnership can be seen in joint tourism campaigns linking the Airport with both tourism and airline partners to raise awareness of the diversity of the Hunter region and drive additional visitation, over-night stays and additional spend.
