Newcastle Airport was proud to once again support Australia’s largest surfing festival, Surfest. Held 11 to 22 March 2010 at Merewether Beach, Surfest is a well-known local event. This year, Newcastle Airport had its very own street artist who adorned the concrete around the Merewether Club House with an Airport-themed masterpiece.
Newcastle Airport has been the major sponsor of the Civic Theatre ‘Inspirations’ Children’s Season for the past three years ‘Inspirations’ brings the very best productions to the Civic Theatre for children and their families. The following shows are proudly presented by the Civic Theatre and Newcastle Airport in 2010: > Fox 25 - 26 June> The Gruffalo 14 - 17 July> Wombat Stew 16 - 19 August > Special Delivery 16 - 18 September Teachers making early bookings for the Schools Program have the chance to win their schools tickets to Children’s Season shows. In 2009, Newcastle Airport presented more than 200 tickets to Gillieston Heights Public School, Salt Ash Public School, Medowie Public School and St Philips Christian College, Port Stephens.
The Aviation Careers Day is an initiative driven by Newcastle Airport and supported by the Airport’s aviation-precinct. Now in its fourth year, this free-of-charge annual event promotes the aviation industry as a career pathway to high school students. In 2009, Newcastle Airport hosted the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge. A 25-metre race track was set-up in the terminal for students to test their F1 designs.
