SPOTLIGHT ON: ADELAIDE

Sophisticated, cultured, neat-casual. This is how Australia southern 'city of churches' is most often described. Quite literally Adelaide is a melting pot of cultural cool.

The city's origins stepped in colonial history gives its inhabitants a real sense of pride as to where it has come from. What's emerged is a new, hip, bustling city where the focus is on arts, live music and culinary delights.

These days things are very different so far south of the border. Multicultural flavours infuse Adelaide's restaurants; there's a pumping arts and live-music scene; and the city's festival calendar is brimming with colour and vibe.

For the architecture tragic there are still plenty of spires, but don't be surprised if many of the religious buildings now sport slick renovations to house the growing number of hip bars popping up.

There are so many hidden bars tucked away in laneways to rival Melbourne's renowned scene; another nod to is closest sister city is Adelaide's tram network. Simply hop on the carriage in the city and within a few stops you can be at the sublime Glenelg.
