Announcements create a positive flow-on effect-Airport_News

Today, Newcastle woke up to two great pieces of news from the NSW Government:

  1. Newcastle has secured the V8 Supercars for five years starting in 2017, and
  2. The Port of Newcastle will receive $12.7 million for a permanent multi-purpose cruise terminal facility.
These announcements will have a phenomenal impact on our airport passenger throughput and on tourism in our region.

How so?

The V8 Supercars will be a catalyst to showcase the picturesque East End taking in Nobbys Beach, Fort Scratchley and the region to the projected 81,000 visitors for the event and the hundreds of thousands watching from the comfort of their lounge rooms.

The dedicated cruise terminal will strengthen Newcastle as an international cruise destination and secure the long-term future of cruise shipping in the Hunter. Hopefully we will see a return of home porting where ships start and finish their cruise in Newcastle. We saw the success of this in Newcastle in 2010 and 2011 where cruise ship passengers flew into Newcastle from all over the country to join cruises departing Newcastle.

These announcements are exciting for the region; showcasing our region to new tourists and to new markets. The benefit to Newcastle Airport is that we can expect more visitors to fly in to visit and experience the uniqueness of the Hunter.
