Students provide festive welcome

Visitors to Newcastle Airport during the festive season will be greeted with a myriad of colour and sparkle, thanks to the creativity of local schools that have adorned the terminal walls with decorated Christmas banners.

For the past three years, Newcastle Airport has invited schools taking part in its School Program to let their imaginations go wild and decorate large, blank canvases with depictions of Christmas at an airport. The banners are now on display throughout the Airport terminal.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Paul Hughes, commended the efforts of all the students and thanked the teachers for their assistance.

“The students who assisted with the Christmas banner project have, this year, participated in our successful Schools Program, which offers a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of the Airport.

“Newcastle Airport is proud to work with local schools in offering students a unique learning experience through the Schools Program and Christmas banner project,” said Paul.
In 2009 more than 3,000 students visited Newcastle Airport as part of the Schools Program, with the Program expected to continue to grow in 2010.

“Newcastle Airport is committed to supporting the community that it operates within, and the Christmas banners provide a friendly welcome to the more than 100,000 visitors we expect to pass through the Airport terminal during the busy holiday season,” concluded Paul.

Students from Gillieston Heights Public School, Holy Family School Merewether, Elermore Vale Public School, Medowie Public School, Macquarie College, Stockton Public School, Mayfield West Public School, Charlestown East Public School, Waratah West Public School, St Josephs School Charlestown, Warners Bay Public School, Soldiers Point Public School, Bolwarra Public School, Belmont Christian College and Hunter River Community School contributed to the project.
