Domestic Departures

When to Arrive

  • For domestic flights we recommend arriving at the airport one hour before your flight’s departure to allow time to park, check-in luggage and pass through domestic security screening. 
  • If you only have carry on luggage then you can check-in 30-minutes before your flight departs. 
  • Before you leave home make sure you have all relevant travel documents including e-tickets and current photo Identification.

Tips to make your departure hassle-free:
  • Ensure all travel documents and tickets are ready before you reach the check-in counter or kiosk
  • Be aware of weight and size restrictions for checked baggage. For specific weight allowances, please refer to your ticket or contact your airline directly. Remove or tighten all straps on duffle bags or backpacks
  • Ensure that all checked and carry on luggage has your name and address on it prior to arriving at the airport
  • Pack your own baggage and remove all old bag tags
  • Confirm that your baggage does not contain any restricted items. For a complete up-to-date list of restricted items please visit www.casa.gov.au

ID requirements

All passengers, including children and infants travelling with an adult, will need to provide valid identification. The following forms of current (not expired) photo identification can be used:

  • Driver’s license
  • Company issued identification
  • Student identification cards, and
  • Passport

Check-in

  • The check-in area is located on the Departures (left) side of the terminal. Make sure you have your ticket or booking reference number handy and proceed to your chosen airline’s counter. 
  • Or save time and check-in online up to 48 hours before you depart. Find out if your airline offers online check-in on our airline's page. 
  • Luggage requirements vary with each airline. We recommend you check your luggage requirements with your chosen airline before you leave home. 
  • Luggage trolleys are available at the entrance to the check in area and can be hired for a small fee.

Powders, Liquids, Aerosols & Gels

  • For domestic flights you do not need to separate or pack liquids, aerosols and gels in your checked luggage. You are permitted to bring these items on the plane in your carry on bag. 
  • You do need to separate any aerosols for the screening process, and they must be lockable or have a lid.

Security Screening

  • Once you've checked-in you'll proceed to the domestic security screening point. As you enter the domestic screening point you may be randomly selected for explosive trace detection testing. Your carry on luggage will be x-ray screened and you’ll pass through a metal detector.
  • All carry-on items must be placed in a tray for screening. Please place jackets, purses, and carry-on bags in trays provided before arriving at the front of the screening line.
  • Remember to remove laptops, mobile devices, belts, metal accessories and aerosols from your bag and place them in the trays provided.
  • You can leave your powders, liquids and gels in your carry on bag at this time.
  • Avoid carrying or wearing metal items that may trigger metal detector alarms (eg belts, large buttons, body piercings, and steel toe/capped shoes)
  • You may be asked to remove your shoes.
