Visit and explore the Sunshine Coast

With 100km of coastline that stretches from the Pumicestone Passage in the south through to Tin Can Bay in the north, the Sunshine Coast is the perfect holiday destination for beach-lovers. But there’s so much more to this slice of paradise than its white sandy beaches and laidback lifestyle. A sprawling Hinterland is an easy 45-minute drive from the coast offering lush rainforest and postcard perfect villages. Take a holiday where the beach meets the rainforest, and you may never want to leave! Newcastle Airport will soon offer Newcastle to Sunshine Coast flights with Bonza.

Top attractions

Whether you want action and adventure, or a quiet escape, the Sunshine Coast has it all. At the top of your list should be beautiful beaches, and the Sunshine Coast has something for everyone with sheltered swimming spots galore. Beach hot spots include Noosa, Coolum Beach, Maroochydore, and Mooloolaba. If you want more action, you’re in luck as water activities abound in this slice of paradise and there’s no shortage of spots for a SUP, surf, or snorkel. You can even swim with whales thanks to Sunreef Mooloolaba! If diving is more your thing, head for the HMAS Brisbane dive site a few kilometres off the coast. When you’re done cooling off, spend your days exploring top tourist attractions such as Australia Zoo, the Big Pineapple, or the iconic Ginger Factory at Yandina.

Eat & Drink

Did you know the Sunshine Coast has more craft beer than anywhere else in the country, making it Australia’s craft beer capital? Make the most of it by jumping on the craft beer trail to enjoy the amber nectar. While you’re out and about, keep an eye out for the many roadside farmgate stalls featuring the freshest of produce - it doesn’t get much better than a fresh pineapple grown on the Sunshine Coast! You can also pick your own fruit at McMartin’s Strawberry Farm, a wholesome day out for the whole family. There’s plentiful food to be found at the multiple farmers markets dotting the Sunshine Coast, or if you’re looking for something a bit fancier, swing by Hastings Street in Noosa and take your pick of cool cafes and restaurants where you can sit back and relax, and watch the world go by.

What’s On

There’s plenty happening on the Sunshine Coast, from community markets to live music and everything in between. The Original Eumundi Markets are a must-visit for locally made, baked, sewn and grown goods - they are open every Saturday and Wednesday until early afternoon. When you’re done exploring the markets, you can laze your afternoons away to live music which can be found at many venues across the coast. The Sunshine Coast is also home to popular sporting events such as the Noosa Triathlon and surfing competitions.

Explore the regions

The Blackall Range is within easy reach of the coast and has multiple volcanic peaks waiting to be explored. Pack your hiking gear and venture up Mount Beerwah or the Glasshouse Mountains – with stunning views as your reward, it’s well worth the effort! If you’re looking for something more relaxed, amble your way through picture-perfect hinterland villages including Maleny, Montville, and Mapleton which are packed to the brim with art galleries, boutique shops, and cafes. A stop in Kenilworth is also worthwhile, a small country town packed with a whole lot of charm. Hot tip - Kenilworth Country Bakery is a must visit for its famed donuts.
