Nineteen months of growth

Records continue to be broken at Newcastle Airport as the latest passenger figures show that May 2017 was the best May ever for the Airport. During May 101,257 passengers used Newcastle Airport. This is the first time that the month of May has surpassed the 100,000 passenger throughput mark.

“This is a fantastic result for the month of May," said Newcastle Airport’s CEO, Dr Peter Cock.
“May is typically one of our quieter months for passenger traffic, as it isn’t supported by any public or school holidays, which of course help boost traffic numbers,” he said.

“Nineteen months of consecutive growth is an achievement our region should feel really proud of. This means that we, Hunter residents, are choosing to use our local airport to fly from; the airlines are starting to take notice and responding by adding extra capacity—it’s a cycle, and if we continue to use the extra capacity, hopefully more will come.

“We know the airlines have already added 30,000 extra seats to-and-from Newcastle for the winter season, as well as extra flights for the V8 Supercars in November.

Our year-to-date passenger throughput has never been better, and all indications are that this is shaping up to be the best financial year for passenger throughput we’ve ever seen,” concluded Peter.
