Code E runway upgrade

In order to release billions of dollars in economic benefit, the airport’s runway requires an upgrade to Code E status, which will allow it to accommodate long-range, wide-bodied aircraft.

A Code E civilian runway at Williamtown is a game changer for the region including the generation of 4,410 full time jobs.

Astra Aerolab

Uniquely co-located with RAAF Base Williamtown and Newcastle Airport, Astra Aerolab is Australia’s newest defence and aerospace precinct. A one-of-a-kind place, enhancing Australia’s ability to deliver world class sustainment and manufacturing capability to the Defence sector.

Terminal Forecourt Trial

Newcastle Airport is trialling a new layout to the existing road that runs past the terminal forecourt. The existing fence will be removed, and the drop-off/pick-up lane will extend the full length of the forecourt area. The inside lane adjacent to the fencing will become a drop-off/pick-up lane, while the outside lane will be a transit lane for all vehicles.

Security screening upgrade

Newcastle Airport is one of the first Airports in Australia to become fully compliant with the Australian Government’s new mandatory aviation security screening requirements.

The new state of the art security screening equipment means passengers are no longer required to undergo random explosives detection testing or to remove electronic devices, aerosols and liquids from their hand luggage.

We’re passionate about creating an experience for our passengers that’s as stress-free as possible. From the facilities in our terminal to considered design, we strive to positively impact each and every passenger journey through our airport.
