Terminal Forecourt Trial

The reason for the trial is to investigate how improvements can be made to our kerbside drop-off and pick-up zones by increasing the amount of stopping bays in front of the terminal. We expect these changes will benefit passengers during peak times by allowing more vehicles to access the forecourt area. If the trial is successful, the kerbside improvements will become permanent.

The trial is expected to take one week to install and then run initially for 4 weeks.  
Start date: 12 July 2021 End date: TBA*

*Due to current travel restrictions and low traffic volumes, the trial will be extended with a new end date to be advised once restrictions ease and traffic returns to normal.

Customers will be able to drop-off and pick-up along the full length of the forecourt. (Please refer to the above map.)

For the purposes of aviation security, drivers can stay as long as it takes to pick-up or drop-off passengers.

Please note: the drop-off and pick-up zone is a No Parking Zone and it is unlawful to leave your vehicle unattended; failure to comply may result in an infringement notice being issued. Please co-operate if you are asked to move your vehicle by a uniformed airport staff member.

Any drivers who arrive too early to drop-off or pick-up are welcome to park in our designated waiting zone located in our Long Stay Saver Overflow car park (refer to map above) which allows you to stay for 2-hours at no charge. When their passenger is ready to be picked up, they can notify their driver via text message that it is time to move to the forecourt area.

A safe buffer space has been incorporated along the length of the drop-off/pick-up lane to allow passengers to exit or enter their vehicle. In addition, the forecourt area will be monitored and managed by airport operations staff.

Added protection around the pedestrian crossings will also be installed to improve pedestrian safety when crossing the road.

The long-term vision is to improve our customer experience by making the drop-off and pick-up process easier for everyone. The lessons learned from the trial will be captured and included in the design considerations for the terminal upgrades works planned over the next three years.

The loop road to access the forecourt area is publicity accessible and will remain so during trial operations. As with the current arrangements – the trial will have a moving or transit lane that passes beside the drop-off and pick-up zone and will be used by moving vehicles. These vehicles include, private vehicles, taxis, rideshare vehicles, buses, coaches, and trucks.
