From 2 December 2025 to 21 April 2026, Jetstar will connect Newcastle and Hobart with three direct flights a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Jetstar will launch seasonal direct flights to Hobart starting 2 December, operating three flights a week between 2 December 2025 to 21 April 2026.

Flights operate on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in both directions.

The direct flight from Newcastle to Hobart takes 2 hours - quicker than the drive to Sydney.

Flights from Newcastle to Hobart will be operated between 2 December 2025 and 21 April 2026 by Jetstar on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

It's approximately a 20-minute drive to the city centre. Car hire (which we strongly recommend to pre-book), taxis, rideshare and shuttles are all available at the airport.

Expect cool winters, mild springs, warm but changeable summers, and crisp autumns – pack layers and a jacket year-round.

Top picks include Salamanca Market, MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), kunanyi/Mount Wellington and the Pinnacle Observation Shelter for views across Hobart and a Derwent River ferry ride.

From Hobart you can take day trips to Wineglass Bay (Freycinet National Park), Bruny Island, Port Arthur Historic Site and the Cape Pillar walk. 

Launceston is a 2hr 20min drive which takes you through the heart of Tasmania where you'll experience spectacular scenery, fascinating history and local produce.

The famous Salamanca Market is held every Saturday from 8:30am to 3:00pm at Salamanca Place in Hobart. It’s a must-do for visitors, with over 300 stallholders selling Tasmanian produce, handmade crafts, art, clothing, and gifts – all set against Hobart’s historic waterfront.
